Backstage News on What Happened to the Failed Fireplace on Tonight’s WWE SmackDown

As noted, tonight’s WWE SmackDown on FOX featured a segment featuring Drew McIntyre, Karrion Kross, and Scarlett, where Kross vs. McIntyre in a Strap Match on October 8 was announced for WWE Extreme Rules. the two Superstars to prevent an attack on her husband. McIntyre approached and she shot what was later confirmed to be a fireball in his face. Scarlett later brought down McIntyre with a low blow from behind, leading to Kross knocking him out with the Kross Jacket entry.

The fireball was nearly impossible to discern in the segment’s first live recording when Scarlett missed her target. However, when WWE came back from the commercial, the replay made it clear that Scarlett was shooting a fireball at McIntyre’s face.

In an update, a new report from Fightful Select confirms that the flash paper burn didn’t go according to plan.

One source was reportedly very clear that the flash paper wasn’t ready for live TV and it wasn’t working at a time when it needed to catch enough of McIntyre’s face to sell the corner.

It was noted that Kross got the word to keep the corner going, and that he and McIntyre improvised for the rest of the segment.

The flashpaper was reportedly brought to the Vivant Arena by the team that brought the WWE jet to Salt Lake City for tonight’s SmackDown. It was not picked up locally or taken with the WWE prop team.

Below are several shots from the segment on SmackDown, along with the full video:
