Backstage update on Elias returning to the WWE storylines

Elias will return to WWE soon.

As noted earlier this month, Ezekiel was removed from the WWE internal roster and replaced by his original persona, the “older brother” Elias.

In an update, a new report from the Wrestling Observer confirms there are plans for Elias to return. There’s no word yet on when he’ll be brought back to the storylines, but it won’t be until his beard is fully grown, according to the update.

The return of Elias is another move planned by WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H. It was recently reported that Triple H has a number of debuts/returns planned for the near future, reportedly surprises that no one is talking about.

Ezekiel was last seen on August 8 RAW. After their match ended in a No Contest, Ezekiel was knocked out by Kevin Owens with a powerbomb in the apron and then carried out of the arena by medics. That was the angle to write Ezekiel out of the storylines.

On the official WWE website roster, at the time of writing, Ezekiel is still listed as a RAW Superstar, while Elias is still on the Alumni roster. This is expected to change soon.

After losing a feud against Jaxson Ryker in July 2021, WWE began broadcasting vignettes for the end of Elias’s musician persona in August of last year. He was rumored to be repackaged, but WWE waited until the post-WrestleMania 38 RAW on April 4 this year to bring him back, and now he was known as Ezekiel, the younger brother of the Breakout Superstar winner. 2018 of the Year Slammy Award.

Ezekiel worked early on with The Miz, Tommaso Ciampa, Chad Gable, and Otis, but mostly argued with Kevin Owens, who refused to believe this was Elias’ real younger brother. Owens defeated Ezekiel at WWE Hell In a Cell in June, but Zeke took a countout win on the June 13 RAW.

WWE reunited Elias and Ezekiel using cutting edge screen technology on June 20 RAW, and Elias later gave a concert in the ring but was interrupted by Owens, who challenged Elias, Ezekiel or their younger brother Elrod to a match. Owens vs. Elrod in a Money In the Bank qualifier was postponed from the June 27 RAW and by the July 18 show, Elrod was out of the picture.

Ezekiel lost to Seth Rollins on the July 3 and 18 RAW shows, then came up short against Omos on the August 4 edition of the WWE Main Event. He was then destroyed by Owens on August 8 RAW, and that was his last appearance. WWE noted after the stretcher job that Zeke was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. WWE later had Elias appear as their father, Ernie Jr., on the August 15 episode. A short, pre-recorded clip had Ernie Jr. promised to give Owens a piece of his mind. The segment featured a photo of Elias dressed as Zeke’s various family members, as seen below.

Elias took out Owens after his concert in that June 20 episode of RAW. However, the last match for Elias was the loss to Ryker in the Symphony of Destruction match on July 19, 2021 RAW.

Elias, 34, has been with WWE since signing his WWE NXT development deal in early 2014. He is a one-time former WWE 24/7 champion. Elias also released his 4-track “Walk With Elias” EP on July 22, 2018, and the 4-track “Universal Truth” EP on October 26, 2020, both through the WWE Music Group.
