AEW superstar and current ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli recently appeared on Insight with Chris Van Villet to discuss a wide variety of pro-wrestling-related topics, including how Swiss Superman came up with his most famous signature maneuver, the big swing. Claudio, who has been using the move for over 15 years, reveals he decided to try it after seeing an episode of Dancing With the Stars. Highlights from the interview are below.
He says he came up with the big swing by watching Dancing With The Stars:
“If you don’t have the option of Netflix or something, and you just have cable, I don’t know why, but ‘Dancing With The Stars’ was on, and they always have the cool elevators, right? Where they let people flow around and one of my Mexican teachers, Skayde, was watching gymnastics or whatever and just coming up with new moves while watching something. So I looked at it because they always had really cool elevators the way they picked people up… and they did a variation on that, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s cool,’ so I went to try it out and thought about the move quite a bit.”
Thinks Orange Cassidy was the first to make the switch:
“I don’t know, maybe Orange Cassidy used to be.”
