‘I’m not a big fan of wrestling matches’

Eric Bischoff shared his view that: he sees the industry as entertainment first, sport second in pro wrestling during the latest episode of his 83 weeks podcast.

Bischoff stated that he is not a fan of wrestling matches, but rather a fan of the stories the show tells.

‘I’m going to burn myself. I’m being crucified for what I’m about to say. But guess what? I do not give a hoot. I’m just not a big fan of wrestling matches. I’m a big fan of the story and the way the show is built. Built. formatted. Created. I am a big fan of new ideas. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.”

Bischoff explained that he watched little to nothing of WWE while in charge of WCW during the Monday Night War.

“No [I didn’t watch WWF content.] I was aware. If I heard about something that was coming up that was important, that people were excited about or interested in and I heard that, I would check it out. But I haven’t studied it. I haven’t kept track of it. I haven’t really thought about it that much.

“As far as there were things about the WWF that really stood out, then I watched WWF, and when I came by, more often than not I would stop by to see how they were producing their show. I didn’t tune in to watch a wrestling match .”
