Sami Callihan broke his leg last September and returned to Impact earlier this year. He recently spoke about his recovery and other topics in an interview with Subway. Here are the highlights:

His recovery from injury:

“I’m still rehabilitating that man. I may have come back a little too early, maybe not. The pain wasn’t what was bothering me – pain is just pain, I can lock pain out of my head. It’s mental – it’s not being able to do what you’re used to, it’s learning everything again, it’s trying to get out of your own head and be successful again. That injury, frankly, could have ended my career if we’re being honest about it. But that didn’t happen, and I’m extremely lucky…

“If you’re sitting at home, unable to move, unable to exercise, and sitting on a couch eating chipotle every day – that does something to your psyche. Everything will go through your brain. What if I can never do what I love again? What if I never become the Death Machine of yesteryear? I don’t think people realize how bad that injury really was.”

Concerned about the recurrence of the injury:

“The thought of just getting on that leg and it snaps. Whatever happens, the rest of my career will stay in my head. I felt that, I physically felt my bone and heard the bone snap. You can’t just get that out of your head. Whatever I do, I think there will always be that little piece of my mind – but I think the more matches I play, the more I get back, I’ll be so much more confident, so much more aggressive, that much angrier.”

Making changes to his in-ring style after returning from injury:

“The Death Machine won’t let him slow down anytime soon. Am I still diving? Probably not! But I’m kicking as always? Absolute. Now I get the chance to be back in the main event of IMPACT Wrestling. I get the chance to be a character in IMPACT Wrestling and live my dream. I wouldn’t take it any other way.”
