Shawn Mendes, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and more are featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming animated movie “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile!” Mendes, as the voice of the titular character, also revealed that this Friday (September 30) he will be sharing one of the original songs he wrote for the set titled “Heartbeat.”

He is credited with eight songs on the list and is also joined by co-stars Constance Wu and Javier Bardem, as well as Anthony Ramos. The full soundtrack will be available for streaming on October 7, the same day as the film’s official premiere.

The film by Will Speck and Josh Gordon is based on Bernard Waber’s 1965 children’s book and follows Lyle the crocodile as he navigates New York. After the Primms move into their home on 88th Street, Mrs. Primm, played by Wu, is shocked to find the singing crocodile in her bathtub. Eventually, the crocodile befriends her son Josh (Winslow Fegley) and his owner Héctor P. Valenti, played by Bardem.

The trailer features Mendes singing an original song by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the critically acclaimed and award-winning composers behind “The Greatest Showman,” “Dear Evan Hansen” and “La La Land.”

Before announcing the film at the end of June, Mendes spoke with People and explained that he felt “very comfortable” playing Lyle because the crocodile sings exclusively throughout the film.

“I was able to do what I do best, and I feel so connected to his story and his character that it felt natural,” he said. “When I was approached to help create the music for the adaptation of such a classic book, it was a great idea and just so much fun to deviate from what I’m used to.”
