GLOBAL SUCCESS (Season 1)

Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Comedy
Form: Melissa Fumero, Madeleine Arthur, Randall Park
Author: Vanessa Ramos
Duration: 27 minutes

One of the highly anticipated new comedies to hit Netflix in 2022 is Blockbuster, a sitcom set in the last remaining video store chain that has been bankrupted by Netflix itself.

It comes from a great family tree with some brilliant comedic actors and actresses in roles plus the creator who has worked on titles like Brooklyn-99 and Super store.

Reviews weren’t particularly nice with the title on a 44 out of 100 on Metacritic straight away.

Nina Metz of the Chicago Tribune was very lukewarm about the series, saying: “Blockbuster on Netflix treats the video store itself as a backdrop – a setting – rather than a premise. What a missed opportunity! Video stores have always been such a specific and niche ecosystem, now providing for the declining demand for DVDs”

Can Blockbuster defy Netflix comedy’s current odds and make it to a second season? We will have to find out in the coming weeks and months.
