WWE Brings Back Big Match For Extreme Rules, Updated Map

WWE brings the Fight Pit structure to the main squad for the first time.

The feud between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle continued tonight during WWE RAW from San Jose. Riddle helped WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley retain Rollins, while Rollins later attacked Riddle when he and Rey Mysterio fell short against The Judgment Day. Rollins and Riddle were later fought backstage. Rollins finally gave Riddle the rematch he begged for, of Rollins’ win at Clash at The Castle. Rollins said that Riddle can have the match at any time and any place. Riddle then challenged Rollins to a Fight Pit match and Rollins accepted.

Rollins vs. Riddle in the Fight Pit is now booked for the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules Premium Live Event

The Fight Pit structure is a modified structure where the ring is surrounded by a steel cage instead of ropes and turnbuckles. A walkway surrounds the top of the structure, with metal railings that can be climbed. The Fight Pit fights can only be won through submission or TKO, there are no pinfall wins.

The inaugural Fight Pit match took place on the May 27, 2020 episode of WWE NXT, with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle as the special referee. That match saw Timothy Thatcher beat Riddle. Thatcher went on to win the second and final Fight Pit match on the January 20, 2021 NXT episode, beating Tommaso Ciampa.
