WWE SmackDown Pulls Big Viewers and Major Demo Scores Last Friday, Best Audience Since 2020

The live edition of WWE SmackDown on Friday attracted an average of 2.535 million viewers on FOX, according to Nielsen, via Showbuzz Daily.

The latter number is 14.6% higher than last week’s final viewership of 2,212 million viewers.

Friday’s SmackDown was rated 0.62 in the top 18-49 demographic. This is 24% higher than the rating of 0.50 last week. Last week’s 0.62 key demo rating represents 819,000 18-49 viewers, which is 25.61% more than the 652,000 18-49 viewers who pulled the 0.50 key demo rating last week, according to wrestling.

SmackDown ranked #1 in ratings for the top 18-49 demographics on network TV, even ranking #1 the previous week and the nine weeks before that. SmackDown was #1 on the 18-34 demo this week, up from the previous week’s #3. SmackDown was #1 on the 25-54 demo, even holding #1 the previous week and the 12 weeks before that. SmackDown debuted at #4 for the evening in viewership on Network TV, which is higher than the previous week’s #6 ranking. While SmackDown topped the night on network TV in its main demographic, Shark Tank topped ABC’s viewership with 3.792 million viewers, also with a demo score of 0.48.

SmackDown on Friday drew the highest total audience of the year to date, the highest viewership for the main demo since January 21, and tied the June 24 and July 22 episodes for the second-highest demo score of the year so far. Friday’s SmackDown attracted the highest total audience since the 3,303 million viewers the taped show drew on December 25, 2020 with a strong Christmas prelude from the NFL. Without including the Christmas 2020 episode with the NFL introduction, Friday’s SmackDown drew its highest total audience since March 20, 2020, which was the second empty arena episode during the COVID-19 pandemic. Friday night’s sports competition included College Football on ESPN and Top Rank Boxing on ESPN, plus AEW Rampage, and reviews for Rampage can be found here. Friday viewership was 14.6% higher than last week’s episode, while the main demo rating was 24% higher than last week’s episode.

The viewership for Friday’s SmackDown episode was 18.74% higher than the same week in 2021, while the ratings for the main demos on Friday 18-49 were 12.72% higher than the same week in 2021.

The Virginia vs. Syracuse College Football game on ESPN topped the evening on the Cable Top 150 with a demo score of 0.42 which also drew 1.792 million viewers. The Five on FOX News topped the cable with 2.906 million viewers, also with a demo score of 0.16.

Friday’s SmackDown was broadcast live from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, UT, with the following lineup announced in advance: Otis vs. Braun Strowman, an appearance by the undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, plus the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions defending The Usos against Ridge Holland and Butch, which was the main event.
